Millersville, Pa.- The Marauders are known for harassing teams with an aggressive offensive attack, normally challenging goalkeepers with a barrage of shots on goal. On Saturday in their match-up with No. 4 East Stroudsburg, this was not the case. Millersville did not attempt a single shot on goal in the 1-0 loss to ESU, as Robin Stevenson scored the only goal of the game for the Warriors.
Stevenson entered a one-on-two situation early in the second half, and the play appeared to be at a dead end. But Stevenson isn't a top 15 point scorer in the NCAA for no reason. She sprinted forward, slammed on the brakes, backed up, and hit a screamer from 15 yards out that hit the back of the goal after splitting two defenders and goalkeeper
Samantha Rumler. The ball was struck just inside the corners, causing the referees to confer to see if she had entered the circle. The referees confirmed that it counted, and ESU had the one and only goal of the game.
The loss is Millersville's first home loss since a 2-1 loss to Shippensburg in October of 2014. The Marauders had some chances to score, such as Maragaret Thorwart's shot with 10 minutes remaining that just missed the goal. It was the first game since Oct. of 2012 that Millersville did not have a shot on goal.
Rumler made five saves in the loss. She faced several difficult situations, making a diving save and a kick save on back-to-back shots in the first half. Both Millersville and Rumler's record falls to 9-2 with the loss.
The Marauders can salvage their weekend, as they take on Queens at home Sunday at 1 p.m.
