Erie, Pennsylvania - The No. 3-ranked Millersville field hockey team defeated Mercyhurst 3-0 Tuesday in a PSAC road game. The Marauders out-shot the Lakers 12-8, edged them in corners 10-7, and had six saves compared to Mercyhurst's eight. Despite an evenly played game, Millersville shutout the PSAC foe due in large part to the goaltending of
Samantha Rumler.
Rumler accounted for six saves in Millersville's fifth shutout of the season. She wasn't the only one to step up as
Jessica Beard scored both the first and the last goal for the Marauders in the victory. The first of those was assisted by
Maci Langone. Langone grabbed the rebound and passed it off to Beard. Beard's second goal (the Marauders' third) of the game came with 10 minutes remaining on an unassisted effort.
Arianna Grays also scored in the victory for her fourth goal of the season.
Aliza Mizak was responsible for the assist.
The victory brings Millersville to 9-1 (4-0) on the season, Mercyhurst drops to 0-10 (0-4).
Millersville has now won eight in a row, giving up only three goals in the last eight games. The Marauders await a match-up against No. 4 East Stroudsburg on Saturday and a quick turnaround against Queens on Sunday.
