Millersville, Pennsylvania -Â Â
Stacie Hallinan scored her third goal and
Kay Liebl scored in double overtime to lift Millersville to a 2-1 victory over Mansfield Tuesday. The Marauders outshot the Mounties 19-15 and
Samantha Wolfe totaled seven saves in the win.
The Marauders looked to strike immediately, as
Sydnie Parker took the opening kick off down the right side and forced Rachel Rox to make her first save of the game. Minutes later, the same scenario unfolded and Fox had to lay out for another save.Â
Mansfield nearly got on the board in the 16th when Kersten O'Brien pinged a shot off the crossbar. In the 19th,
Kay Liebl broke free and placed a shot on frame but Fox grabbed her third save of the game. In the 21st, Liebl ripped a shot that forced Fox to lay out and push the ball just wide setting up a corner for Millersville. The two sides would trade opportunities but neither could convert before the break.
In the 51st minute, Millersville earned a free kick from just outside the box.
Savannah Hall crossed a ball and
Stacie Hallinan one-timed it far post to give the Marauders a 1-0 lead. Minutes later,
Alexandrea Powell ripped a shot from the top of the box that Rachel Fox tipped over the crossbar. Millersville continued to press earning a pair of corners, but Fox came up with two saves to keep the game 1-0.
The Moutnties would draw even in the 67th as Danielle Lentz found the ball at her feet and shot it along the ground past a diving Wolfe. Millersville pressed late trying to score before the end of regulation when Sydnie Paerker whipped in a cross that nobody could get on the end of and the two sides went to overtime tied 1-1.
In the first overtime, the Marauders earned another free kick just outside of the box but were unable to get a shot off. With less than two mintues to play, Delaney Meadows got behind the Millersville defense but Wolfe sprawled out for the game-preserving save.
In the second overtime,
Sydnie Parker broke free and ripped a shot from the right side, but Fox handled it for another save. Minutes later,
Emily Kaufmann played a through ball that
Kay Liebl would take into the box and beat Fox far post for the game-winning goal.
Millersville now stands at 6-10 (6-9 PSAC) and travels to Mercyhurst Saturday for their season finale facing the Lakers at 1 p.m.
