Mercyhurst, Pennsylvania -Â Alexandrea Powell scored her team-leading fifth goal of the season as Millersville held off Mercyhurst for a 1-0 victory Saturday. Millersville was outshot by the Lakers 13-9 but registered six shots on goal to Mercyhurst's five.
Samantha Wolfe posted five saves in her final game for the Marauders.
Millersville threatened immediately, earning a corner kick in the second minute and
Savannah Hall pushed a shot just wide of the net. Mercyhurst registered six shots in a row along with a corner kick but could not convert.
In the 27th minute,
Halie Parker crossed the ball into the box where Alexndrea Powell collected and fired it into the back of the net. The Marauders nearly doubled their lead in the 35th when
Kay Liebl sent a header on net that was saved by Kristen Koch.Â
Millersville looked to strike early in the second when
Sydnie Parker broke free and fired a shot on frame that was snagged by Koch. In the 51st, Maria Vidal sent a header towards the Marauder goal, but
Samantha Wolfe grabbed it to keep the score 1-0 Millersville.Â
Despite the best efforts of the Lakers, the Millersville defense led by
Kaylie Cutlip and
Savannah Hall would not concede a goal and the Marauders were victorious 1-0.Â
Millersville finishes the season 7-10 overall (7-9 PSAC), winning two more games than the 2015 squad.
