Millersville, Pennsylvania -Â Kay Liebl scored her third goal of the season but IUP scored two goals in the first half an edged out Millersville 2-1 Saturday. The Crimson Hawks totaled 11 shots on goal while Millersville managed just two.
IUP looked to get on the board first, but
Samantha Wolfe turned away Kristen Baumgartner's shot. Millersville countered as
Stacie Hallinan had her shot blocked and
Kay Liebl pushed the ball just high.Â
The Crimson Hawks would strike in the 28th as Wolfe was pulled off her line and Kiersten Zerbe collected a rebound and put it in the back of the net. Minutes later, IUP would double their lead when McKenna Keffel gathered a loose ball in the box and lifted it over Wolfe's head.Â
The Marauders would cut the deficit in half just before the break when
Alexandrea Powell played a through ball from midfield that Liebl collected and beat the keeper to make the score 2-1.Â
The Crimson Hawks continued to press in the second half as Zerbe pushed another one just wide of the net. Minutes later, a cross was redirected by Kallie Conte that trickled just wide. Millersville nearly drew even in the 59th when
Savannah Hall played a free kick into the box where
Halie Parker fired the ball from the six but the IUP defense blocked the shot.
In the 80th minute, the Marauders would earn a corner and
Halie Parker sent a header on frame that was cleared off the line by the IUP defense. The ball would bounce to
Stacie Hallinan who had her shot blocked and
Alexandrea Powell ripped one that hit the underside of the crossbar but didn't go in.Â
Samantha Wolfe racked up nine saves on senior day as Millersville now falls to 5-8 (5-8 PSAC) on the year and travels to Wilmington Thursday to face the Wildcats at 3:30 p.m.
