Kutztown, Pa. - The Millersville women's basketball team raced to an early lead and cruised to an 81-70 PSAC East road win at Kutztown Saturday afternoon.
Shelby Reimer hit four of her team's season-high seven 3-pointers for a team-leading 17 points.
Millersville (12-7, 8-7 PSAC), now winners of four of the last five, scored its highest point total since the season opener, matched a season-high in threes made and shot 47.2 percent from the field. Millersville also knocked down 24-of-31 foul shots, giving it 52 made free throws in its last two games.
The Marauders scored 18 points in each of the first three quarters and 27 in the fourth. They took a 7-6 lead on
Celeste Robinson's jumper with 4:12 left in the first quarter and never trailed again. The Marauders finished the opening stanza on a 13-2 run that included points from six different players.
Kutztown managed to cut Millersville's advantage to 28-24 with 1:45 left in the first half, but Reimer cashed a 3-pointer, and
Tyisha White scored five consecutive points to close the half, pushing Millersville's lead back to double-digits.
The Marauders led by as many as 16 in the fourth quarter, but Kutztown scored 15 points in just under three minutes, using five 3-pointers--three from Jenna Altomare. With a minute to play the Marauders holding a 74-68 lead, Kutztown put Reimer on the line. Reimer hit two, and Millersville made 7-of-8 in the final minute. Kutztown's hot-shooting quickly cooled and it missed its final four threes.
Robinson, who hit five free throws in the final minute, recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds. She also matched a career-high with six steals. White scored 11 points and added a block and two steals.
Alayah Hall made three steals to go with three assists and seven points.
Millersville hosts a pair of home games next week, starting Wednesday against Cheyney.
