Millersville, Pa. – Riding two consecutive losses and a game removed from most lopsided loss of the season, the Millersville women's basketball team responded in impressive fashion, defeating PSAC East rival Bloomsburg 72-41 Wednesday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium.
Â
Millersville (9-6, 6-6 PSAC) scored its widest margin of victory of the season in handing Bloomsburg (9-6, 6-5 PSAC) its most lopsided defeat. The 31-point difference was Millersville's largest over Bloomsburg since 2007 and the largest ever at home. The Marauders shot a season-high 52.8 percent from the field while holding Bloomsburg to a meager 23.6 percent. The defensive performance came in response of the season-high 74 allowed to Shippensburg in its last game.
Â
The Marauders received 16 points from
Yasmin Cooper, including 10 in the first quarter, and a season-high 18 from
Shelby Reimer. Reimer made all the threes for the Marauders, hitting 4-of-6. Â
Â
Millersville led for 39:55 of the game's 40 minutes. It took only five seconds for
Celeste Robinson to catch the opening tip and sprint full speed for an easy lay-up. Millersville quickly raced to a 6-0 and led by as many as 15 in the first quarter. Mia Hopkins scored five of Bloomsburg's seven first quarter points—a trend that continued in the second quarter.
Â
Hopkins finished the first half with 15 points, but despite her best effort, the Marauders maintained their sizable lead. Bloomsburg mustered only 17 points in the first half and Hopkins scored 15. While Hopkins shot 6-of-10 in the first half, the rest of the team shot 1-for-18.
Â
There was no Marauder let down in the third quarter as they forced Bloomsburg to miss its first seven field goals. Cooper and Reimer combined for Millersville's first 10 points of the period and the lead extended to 27 with three minutes to play. It continued to grow in the fourth quarter with freshman
Jade Farquhar making an impact. She scored a career-high eight points—seven of which came in the final 10 minutes. She shot 2-of-2 from the field and 4-of-5 from the line in 11 minutes. Millersville made 15-of-25 shots in the second half.

Millersville steps outside of PSAC play for a game against USciences on Saturday at home. Tip is set for 1 p.m.
