Erie, Pa. – Millersville stopped a three-match skid with a four-set win over Slippery Rock (25-19, 25-19, 17-25, 25-21) before dropping their second match of Saturday's PSAC Crossover to Gannon, 3-1 (17-25, 25-17, 19-25, 19-25). Senior
Brooklyn Smith recorded 47 digs on the day, bringing her career dig total to 2,024 which moved her past Jennie Rohrbaugh's all-time career mark of 1,944.
Smith's new digs record sets a mark that had stood since 2006. Smith, a former PSAC East Defensive Player of the Year, has three entries in the school's top-10 single-season digs totals. She has recorded 20-plus digs in seven of 12 matches this season.
Erin Harman led Millersville's attack with 27 kills in two matches, and Kelsi Ceriana added 13. On the inside,
Rhianna Kalescky totaled 5 block assists on the day to lead Millersville while Dawson totaled five service aces to add to her 69 assists. Dawson has now recorded 30 or more digs in five straight matches.
Millersville falls to 8-4 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC. The Marauders travel to take on Pitt-Johnstown Friday at 7 p.m.
Millersville 3, Slippery Rock 1The Marauders made a statement early against the Rock, taking the first two sets by a score of 25-19. In set one, Slippery Rock cut the deficit to just 19-18 before
Emily Kaledas sent home a kill. Smith led Millersville to the game victory via serve.
Millersville maintained a more steady control in set two as Harman recorded three of her 11 kills and Kalescky added four block assists en route to an early lead. In the third set the Rock bounced back as Jaden Zimmer and Lamija Alisic recorded three kills apiece in a 25-17 set win. The fourth set was the most competitive of the match as Ceriana and Harman each tallied four kills. With the score knotted at 19, Millersville pulled away when Dawson served for three straight points sealing the victory for the Marauders.
Gannon 3, Millersville 1The roles reversed against Gannon despite Harman's 16 kills for Millersville. The first set was close early, but the Golden Knights slowly pulled away from the Marauders on their way to a victory. Hannah Kren, who led all players with 17 kills in the match, tallied a game high six kills including one to extend the Golden Knights lead to 22-14. Millersville came out on top in the second set. With the score 20-17 in favor of Millersville, Ceriana sent home a kill that set up Smith who served for the final five Marauder points. Harman led the Marauders with 9 kills in the second game while Dawson recorded 14 assists. Millersvile made a late charge in the third set, cutting the score to 18-17 in favor of the Golden Knights. That's when Gannon's Maggie Wilhelm recorded a kill and Sara Crandall served Gannon to the win with five consecutive points. The fourth and final set mirrored the third as the Marauders were within two points as late as 20-18 before Gannon finished off the game when Kren recorded a kill to give the Golden Knights the match victory.
