No. 15 Millersville Downs the Golden Knights, 5-0

Erie, Pa. – The Millersville men's soccer team netted five goals as it shutout the Gannon Golden Knights on Saturday evening at McConnell Family Stadium. The Marauders improved to 7-0-1 overall and are 4-0 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference action. Gannon dropped to 2-5 overall and 1-3 in the PSAC.

Jaime Vazquez certainly helped build his case for PSAC Player of the Week as he netted another two goals and now has scored five over the past seven days. Vazquez scored the first goal of the match in the 22nd minute when Ryan Phelps slotted a pass behind the Golden Knight defense and Vazquez was able to fire the ball into the upper right corner of the net.

10 minutes later, Jaxson Burns added the second goal of the match on his first colligate goal. Burns received a nifty pass from midfielder Chris Sosa and was able to beat Gannon goal keeper Jorge Hernandez. The Marauders went into the halftime break with a 2-0 lead.

Millersville kept up its offensive pressure and it paid dividends in the 55th minute as Vazquez headed the ball past Jorge Hernandez on a misplay by the keeper. Jaxson Burns was credited with the assist. Vazquez ranks first in the PSAC in points (22) as he has netted a league-high 10 goals, while chipping in two assists. The 22 points ties a career-high mark for the Bernville, Pa., native as the Marauders have surpassed the halfway point of their season.

In the 71st minute, Marcus Frangakis joined in on the scoring party as a defender knocked the ball down right in front of him and he was able to beat the keeper in the upper left corner. The goal marked Frangakis's second of the 2015 season.

Chase Flickinger capped off Millersville scoring in the 85th minute as the goal was double assisted by Jesse Zimmerman and Dylan Fogerty. The five goal outburst is a season-high for the Marauders.

Goalkeeper Kohl Orner earned the win and notched four saves in his fifth shutout of the season. Orner has now made 31 saves in 2015 and his five shutouts are the top mark in the PSAC.

Millersville returns to Pucillo Field for its next match on Tuesday, Sept. 29. The Marauders are scheduled to battle the West Chester Golden Rams for a 4 p.m. kickoff.
