Slippery Rock, Pa. - Margaret Thorwart scored her first two goals of the season and freshman
Aliza Mizak added another as Millersville field hockey rolled to a 3-0 road win at Slippery Rock on Saturday.
Millersville (7-0, 2-0 PSAC) stayed perfect and recorded its fourth consecutive shutout, allowing only three shots and no shots on goal for the third time in the last four games. Millersville has allowed only two shots on goal in its last four games. It is the second time in the last 15 games that Millersville has put together a streak of four consecutive shutouts.
Thorwart entered the game leading the team in shots taken but had yet to find the back of the cage. That changed just 8:54 into Saturday's game when she received a shot from
Megan Donlan and scored her first of the season. Thorwart followed that with another tally 20 seconds before the end of the half. This time, she scored on a penalty stroke.
Mizak scored her fourth of the season when she deflected a
Haley Weaver shot with just over seven minutes to play.
Millersville out-shot The Rock 17-3 and held a 14-3 edge in penalty corners. Thorwart led the team with four shots, and Weaver added three.
The Marauders host Mercyhurst in a PSAC game on Tuesday at home.
