Johnstown, Pa. – In a high scoring affair, the Millersville women's soccer team scored both the first and last goals of the match as it notched a 4-3 victory over the Pitt-Johnstown Mountain Cats. The Marauders improve to 3-4 overall and 3-4 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference. Pitt-Johnstown drops to 0-7 overall and 0-7 in the PSAC.
Scoring got underway just 12 minutes into the match as
Halie Parker fired a shot that was deflected off of Mountain Cat keeper Leigh Appolonia.
Victoria Kramer blasted the rebound opportunity into the back of the net as the goal represented Kramer's third goal of the season and the seventh of her colligate career.
The Marauders held onto their 1-0 lead until the 43
rd minute. Samatha Roberts of UPJ flicked a long pass up the pitch that found an unmarked Kaitlyn Eckley who fired the ball past keeper
Samantha Wolfe. Seconds later, Eckley received another dangerous ball within the box and converted for her second and final goal of the match. Pitt-Johnstown carried its 2-1 lead into the halftime break.
Both teams traded possession and shots to begin the second half, but neither team was able to tally another goal until the 66
th minute. At the 66:08 mark,
Megan Kelley used her pace to elude a Mountain Cat defender and whipped a cross that found
Halie Parker who settled the ball down and beat Leigh Appolonia. The Black & Gold continued to cease the momentum as just over a minute later, a Savanah Hall cross found
Meagan Newmister's head with the redirection found the back of the net giving the Marauders the 3-2 lead.
Once again the Marauders lead didn't last long as in the 71
st minute Kim Bonnett scored the equalizer.
Samantha Wolfe saved Bonnet's initial shot on goal, but Bonnett gathered the rebound and slid it past Wolfe.
In the overtime period, it was
Halie Parker who finished off the Mountain Cats just over a minute into the extra period.
Kristin Lepley delivered a through ball past the UPJ defense and Parker clinically finished for her fifth goal of the season.
Millersville held a 26-16 advantage in shots for the match; nine of the Marauders 26 shots were on target. Goalkeeper
Samantha Wolfe finished the game with four saves.
The Marauders conclude their two-game road trip with a match against the Gannon Golden Knights. The match is scheduled for Sept. 26 with a 5 p.m. kickoff.
