Mansfield, Pa. - No. 3-ranked Millersville field hockey took care of business Saturday afternoon at Mansfield, winning 3-0 behind a pair of goals from junior
Arianna Grays. The win sets up a match-up between unbeaten teams Wednesday when the Marauders host West Chester for a game broadcast on ESPN3 .
The now 5-0 Marauders overmatched Mansfield, piling up a season-high 33 shots to Mansfield four. Millersville placed 25 of those shots on goal, forcing Mountaineer goalkeeper Laura Lawson to make 20 saves. Two more were stopped by teammates. The Marauders held a 17-1 advantage in penalty corners and took 12 in the second half alone. Millersville did not allow a shot on goal for the second consecutive game.
Grays tallied her first multi-goal game since Oct. 20 of her rookie season. She scored the first and third goals of the game, putting Millersville on the board just 38 seconds into the game. Freshman
Aliza Mizak build the lead to 2-0 at the 31:44 mark, taking a pass from
Kathleen Bishop and tapping the ball into the right side of the goal. The goal was Mizak's third through five games.
Grays extended Millersville's lead with just over 20 minutes remaining into the game. Grays beat Lawson to the right with hard-hit shot. Grays finished with four shots, putting all four on goal.
Margaret Thorwart led the team with seven shots, five of which were on goal.
Courtney Weaver also produced four shots on goal.
Millersville and West Chester remain the only undefeated teams in the PSAC but that will change on Wednesday during the NCAA Division II "Game of the Week," which will be broadcast live on ESPN3. It is the first Division II field hockey game ever broadcast on the network. Start time is 6:04 p.m.
