GAME OVERVIEW•
Millersville has started its season 2-0-1 for the first time since the 2013 season which saw the Marauders crowned PSAC Semifinalists and NCAA Atlantic Region Runners-Up. Coach
Steve Widdowson's 2015 squad is proving to have quality depth as 18 total players have seen the pitch including eight freshmen. Of the eight newcomers,
Tanner Brenize,
Ryan Phelps and
Kyle Finsterbush have been entrenched into the starting lineup.
• The Marauders have begun the season extremely stout defensively and have yet to give up a goal through 290 minutes played. Goalkeeper
Kohl Orner has been calm and collected between the pipes, barking orders to his defenders
Kyle Finsterbush,
Ahmed Qaisi,
Devin Rediker and
Tanner Brenize. Orner's veteran leadership has helped the defense keep its shape and marks enroute to three-straight shutouts, which is best within the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.
• Ville goalkeeper
Kohl Orner is 2-0-1 and his statistical numbers are tops in many of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference categories. Orner's three shutouts are the top mark in the PSAC. He is also tied for first with Will Boerema of East Stroudsburg in goals against average (.000) and save percentage (1.000). Orner has recorded 10 saves on the season and has faced 45 shots.
• Millersville has been paced offensively by senior captain
Jaime Vazquez. The Bernville, Pa., native has proved to be a clinical finisher throughout his career amassing 22 career goals. Dating back to last season, the Marauders are 6-0-2 when Vazquez finds the back of the net. Vazquez scored in the match against No. 18 Bloomsburg when a
Kyle Finsterbush through ball was mishandled by the Husky keeper. Vazquez calmly gathered the ball and fired it into the back of the net for his team-leading second goal of the season.
ABOUT THE SERIES• Saturday marks the first-ever meeting between Millersville and Adelphi. The Panthers are a representative of the Northest-10 conference in Division II and had a 12-6-1 overall record a season ago, falling to Southern Connecticut State in the NE-10 Semifinal Championship game.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENTS• The Panthers enjoyed a week of preparation before this weekend's matchup with the Ville. In its most recent affair on Sept. 5, a penalty kick in the 78th minute was the lone tally in a 1-0 victory against Dominican in the final match of the Second Annual Adelphi Alumni Invitational.
• A player to watch for Adelphi is Alejandro Penzini, who returns for his final season after a Northeast-10 All-Conference and NSCAA All-Region performance in 2013. The Venezuelan native looks to take on a leadership role this season while leading the midfield.
• The Panthers have been somewhat unsettled on a goalkeeper as Sergio Reyes holds the most experience of the group with two starts last season after seven starts and three shutouts in 2013. Spenser Powell added a game last season in between the posts while Brian Morgan is pushing for time in net.
