Three-Headed Scoring Attack Paces Marauders over KU

Kutztown, Pa. – The Millersville women's lacrosse team raced to a 4-1 lead over Kutztown in the first 12 minutes of Wednesday's PSAC contest, and the continued offensive pressure by the Marauders prevailed as they defeated the homestanding Golden Bears by a 14-5 final.

Coming off their best defensive showing of the season against Wilmington (Del.), Millersville (5-6, 2-4 PSAC) was even stouter against Kutztown (1-10, 0-7) holding the home team to just 21 shots on net and five goals throughout the 60 minutes of action. The Golden Bears only targeted nine shots on goal and had just three players score during the match. The nine shots on goal marked a season low for Kutztown, as its now lost 10-straight matches after winning its home opener.

The Marauders had a trio of players score three or more goals each with senior Hannah Vogel finding the back of the net three times and assisting on another four efforts to lead the Black & Gold in points (7). Midfielder Renee Landis added four goals and two assists; marking the second straight game the sophomore has scored a hat trick. Freshman Sabrina Fusco also tallied four goals, which improved her goals per game average and now ranks 13th in the PSAC with 2.91 scores a game.

The Black & Gold defense helped the visitors pull away by pressuring Kutztown into 11 second half turnovers. The Marauders carried a 9-2 scoring advantage during that time period and didn't let the home team score until there was just 14 minutes left in the match.

Millersville really took the wind out of KU's sails midway through the second period as its 11th and 12th goals were scored while being a man-down. Both tallies were unassisted as they were beautiful individual efforts by Landis and Fusco. Taylor Davis chipped in two goals and an assist off the bench during the second stanza for the Marauders.

Kutztown freshman Sarah Gabriele recorded her second hat trick of the season in the losing effort while goal keeper Abby Cox tallied seven saves between the pipes. Millersville's goalie Shannon Davis finished with four stops.

The Marauders return to Biemesderfer Stadium this Saturday, April 11 for a 1 p.m. PSAC matchup with Lock Haven.
