Millersville, Pa. – The women's lacrosse team celebrated Senior Day as it honored
Taylor Frombaugh and
Hannah Vogel prior to the first draw control on Saturday afternoon at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. The Marauders were unable to send out its seniors with a victory as they dropped a 15-8 decision to the Bloomsburg Huskies.
Vogel scored a pair of goals and assisted on another effort, giving her 61 career helpers which further entrenched her name into the Millersville record books. Vogel moved past a tie with Courtney Elvanian for first on the program's career assist list. Elvanian's mark had stood since 1997.
The Marauders opened the game with a goal by
Sabrina Fusco at the 28.32 mark. The Garnet Valley product paced the Millersville offensive attack with four goals. Fusco finished up her freshman season leading the team in points (63) and goals scored (52). Her 52 goals marked a Millersville record surpassing Stephanie McClay who previously held the mark, scoring 34 goals in 1985.
Bloomsburg (8-7, 7-5 PSAC) went into the halftime break with a 7-5 lead. During the first period the Huskies saw goals scored by Julie Falk (2), Brigid Kyne (2), Taylor Turner, Tracy Rusen and Morgan Sherriff. Kyne finished the match with a game high six goals and also contributed an assist.
Millersville (6-11, 3-9 PSAC) came out of the locker room by scoring a quick goal within the first three minutes of action in the second stanza. Brigid Hufnagle collected a groundball within the attacking zone and fired a laser past Husky goalkeeper Abbey Burnett.
The Huskies had an answer as they built an 11-6 lead because of a 4-0 run that spanned over 16 minutes of play. Fusco would cut into the BU lead with two consecutive strikes within the 17th minute. However, Bloomsburg further cemented its lead with another 4-0 run that lasted until the final whistle downing Millersville, 15-8.
Millersville concludes the year with eight players reaching double-digit figures in points. The Marauders are set to return seven of the aforementioned players for the 2016 season.
