Millersville, Pa. - No. 20 Millersville baseball totaled 24 runs on 24 hits in Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Philadelphia. The Marauders won the opener 10-4 and received four shutout innings from starter
Stephen Muscovitch. Game two starter
Logan Grant did the same as the Marauders rolled to a 14-2 win.
Millersville (33-9) has now won 35 of the last 40 games against Philadelphia. Millersville sent 15 players to the plate in the doubleheader and 12 recorded at least one hit.
David Summerfield went 4-for-8 with a double, triple, four runs and four RBIs on the day.
Dan Neff went 3-for-4 with two walks and a triple, and
Dan Stoltzfus and
Jeremy Musser hit home runs. Stoltzfus' homer in game two was his 10th of the season and boosted his season RBI total to 57. Musser hit his fourth.
Millersville received strong outings from both starting pitchers. Muscovitch and Grant both made their first career starts and combined to give up just five hits and a walk while striking out nine in eight innings.
The Marauders quickly pulled away in the opener, scoring five runs in the second inning.
Chas McCormick and Musser had run scoring singles.
John Brogan drew a bases loaded walk and Summerfield drove in one with a fielders choice. Summerfield added a RBI double in the third. The lead grew to 9-0 in the fourth when
Tyler McDonald chased home Brogan with a sacrifice fly.
Mitch Stoltzfus scored on Neff's triple.
Muscovitch (3-0) gave up three hits and struck out five while not walking a batter.
Jesse Mowen pitched 1.1 hitless innings out of the pen, and McCormick entered from right field in the seventh and sat down the Rams in order.
Philadelphia helped the Marauders score a couple in the first inning of game two with three errors in the first inning. The lead started to grow in the third when Stoltzfus hit a two-run homer. Musser hit a three-run bomb in the fourth and Summerfield plated two with a triple. The Marauders went on to score six runs in the frame, and they tacked on four more in the sixth.
Luke Emling, A.J Hammond and
Kurt Seiders all came off the bench and recorded hits in the nightcap. Grant picked up his first win of the season after allowing just two walks and a hit while striking out four in four innings.
Millersville hosts USciences for a pair of non-conference games on Thursday, April 23.
