Softball Swept by West Chester on the Road

West Chester, Pa. - The Millersville softball team suffered a pair of heartbreaking losses on Monday as West Chester walked off twice with scores of 4-1 (10 innings) and 3-2.

The Marauders' (15-19, 7-12 PSAC East) record in extra-inning games dropped to 0-4 and they are now just 3-10 in contests decided by only one run. The Golden Rams, meanwhile, have won seven of their last eight to improve to 29-11 overall and 13-5 within the PSAC East.

In game one, Millersville tied the game at 1-1 in the top of the sixth when Jordan Sheffield homered for the second time in as many games. That blast gave her four bombs on the season and 11 for her career, which is tied for second in program history and only one behind the all-time mark set by Angela Lutz in 1993.

However, the score remained tied until the bottom of the 10th and with runners on first and third, West Chester designated player Erin Whitman hit a three-run home run off of starter Cassidy Pinchorski to give her team a 4-1 victory.

Pinchorski (7-11) went nine and a third innings with four runs given up, three earned, on six hits with four walks and six strikeouts. Sheffield and Mandy Hammond were the two Marauders with multiple hits as each tallied two.

The visitors scored much quicker in game two as Brittany Smith put them up 1-0 in the first with a bunt single that scored Sheffield. Millersville eventually took a 2-0 lead in the top of the sixth and did so when Heather Lutz crushed a home run to right field giving her three round-trippers on the season. In the bottom of that inning though, the Golden Rams tied things up at 2-2 with a pair of RBI singles and eventually won the game in the bottom of the seventh with an RBI double.

Brianna Andraos (8-8) went 6.1 innings and gave up three runs, one earned, on six hits to go with three free passes and a punchout. In the cleanup spot, B. Smith was the lone hitter to earn multiple hits as she went 2-for-3 with an RBI and a stolen base.

Wednesday, Millersville welcomes Shepherd into Millersville Softball Field for a nonconference twinbill beginning at 2:30 p.m.
