East Stroudsburg, Pa. -Â Thanks to great pitching from
Cassidy Pinchorski and
Brianna Andraos, the Millersville softball team was able to take two from East Stroudsburg with scores of 3-0 and 4-1 on Sunday afternoon.
A day after the Warriors (14-9, 7-5 PSAC East) came into Millersville Softball Field and swept the Marauders (15-17, 7-10 PSAC East), Millersville went on the road to do some sweeping of its own. Pinchorski (7-10) and Andraos (8-7) gave up a combined one run on seven hits with 13 strikouts and just three walks.
In game one, the Marauders scored two in the second, a third in the sixth and that was plenty of support for Pinchorski in the circle. In that second inning,
Kelsey Campbell reached on a fielder's choice with her sacrifice bunt that allowed
Brittany Smith to score and
Jordan Sheffield singled in Campbell. In the sixth, Campbell's busy day continued as she made it 3-0 in favor of the visitors with a sacrifice fly to right field bringing in B. Smith.
The freshman hurler pitched a complete game shoutout with four hits allowed, one free pass and eight punchouts. Pinchorski now has 15 complete games out of her 16 starts and earned her third shutout of the season. She is first in the league in both complete games and strikeouts with 84. She has also struck out at least five batters in a game eight times this season including five games with at least eight punchouts.
In game two, B. Smith doubled home both
Maria Spinosa and Sheffield in the first to put Millersville up 2-0 early. The home team answered with a run in the bottom of the frame, but that's all it would score as the Marauders added another run in the fifth and one more in the sixth. As part of her 3-for-3 game two, Sheffield homered to right in the fifth and singled in
Stephanie Kulp in the sixth. Sheffield moved into a tie for fifth on the program's career home run chart with 10.
Andraos earned the victory as she went the distance with one run allowed on three hits as well as two walks and five strikeouts.
For the day, Sheffield led Millersville with four hits in her six at-bats to go with two runs scored, a double, a home run, and three RBIs. B. Smith was 3-of-7 on the afternoon with two runs scored, a double and an RBI. Both Kulp and
Gabbie Berry also had two hits apiece for the doubleheader. Prior to Sunday, Berry hadn't had a hit in her last 28 at-bats/11 games.Â
Next up, Millersville travels to West Chester on Monday.
