Millersville, Pa. -Â Cassidy Pinchorski pitched brilliantly in game one for the Millersville softball team as it hosted East Stroudsburg but the Warriors took the win 2-1 in eight innings before running away with game two by a score of 8-0.
The Marauders (13-17, 5-10 PSAC East) fell to 3-9 in games decided by one run and 0-3 in extra-inning contests while East Stroudsburg (14-7, 7-3 PSAC East) pushed its winning streak to four games and has taken 10 of its last 13 games since falling to 4-4 on March 13.
The lack of run support continued for the freshman Pinchorski who has received two runs or less of offense in nine of her 15 starts and Millersville is just 1-8 in those games. The right-handed hurler fell to 6-10 after throwing eight innings and gave up two runs on eight hits with no walks and six strikeouts.
Game one was scoreless through the first three innings before the visitors' Rae Holden brought in Kasey Meckes on a sacrifice fly to center that put them up 1-0 in the top of the fourth. The home team didn't back down though and was able to tie things up at 1-1 with a run of its own with the game on the line in the bottom of the seventh. It started when
Brittany Smith reached on a fielding error by the shortstop and moved to second on
Kelsey Campbell's sacrifice bunt. B. Smith then advanced to third with a
Heather Lutz groundout and scored when
Gabbie Berry reached first thanks to a throwing error by the shortstop with two outs already in the inning.
In the top of the eighth though, the Warriors' Sierra Wagner scored Meckes on yet another sacrifice fly, this time to right field. In the bottom of that inning,
Maria Spinosa stepped in with the basese loaded but flied out. Then came
Danielle DiFilippo who flew out to center but
Stephanie Kulp was thrown out at home by the center fielder after she tagged from third and that brought the game to an abrupt end.
Game two actually saw just one run scored through the first six innings and it came when East Stroudsburg's Holden hit a solo home run to center that cleared everything including the bleachers behind the fence. However, the away team then tacked on seven more runs in the top of the seventh, four of which were charged to the starter
Brianna Andraos (7-7) and the other three to the reliever, Kulp.
Andraos went six and a third with five runs given up on five hits with three free passes and six punchouts. Kulp pitched the remaining two thirds with three runs surrendered on two hits and a walk.
Millersville will look to avenge the sweep when it travels to ESU on Sunday in a rescheduled doubleheader set to begin at 1 p.m.
