Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville baseball team used some late-inning heroics in game one and outstanding pitching in both to take the first two games of the PSAC East series with Lock Haven by scores of 3-2 and 6-2.
Game one went into extra innings after
Kurt Seiders hit a game-tying, solo home run in the top of the seventh and
Chris Murphy escaped a bases loaded jam in the bottom of the inning. A little help from Lock Haven, a two-out infield error, allowed Millersville's go-ahead run to score. Game two was never in doubt as the Marauders raced to a 4-0 lead, out-hitting the Bald Eagles 10-5. They were also helped by four Bald Eagle errors which resulted in three unearned runs.
Chas McCormick stayed red-hot at the plate, going 5-for-8 in the doubleheader with two runs and a steal. He scored the game-winning run in the opener. He has hit in 11 consecutive games with five consecutive multi-hit performances. Musser went a combined 4-for-8 with two doubles, and like McCormick he has at least two hits in five in a row.
The 4-10 Bald Eagles were in line for the upset in game one, taking a 2-1 lead after a pair of unearned runs off of Murphy in the sixth. Both runs were scored after the inning started with back-to-back outs. With Millersville down to its final three outs, senior
Kurt Seiders led off the inning with a solo shot to left field--his first of the season and first since April 3, 2013. Murphy started the bottom of the seventh with a strikeout and ground out, but Lock Haven put together a pair of singles and drew a walk to load the bases. But Murphy got a fly out to end the threat and send the game into extras.
McCormick led off the eighth with a single and promptly stole second.
Dan Stoltzfus moved him to third with a ground out to second and one batter later, McCormick scored when
Mitch Stoltzfus reached on an error. That run was enough.
Matt Binder entered in the eighth and struck out two for his second save, giving Murphy a 6-0 record.
McCormick started the Marauders' in the nightcap, as well. He hit a two-out double in the first and came home on a
Dan Stoltzfus single.
Dan Neff drove in
David Summerfield in the second, and Millersville tacked on two more on RBIs from McCormick and Stoltzfus. The Marauders added two more in the seventh.
Dylan Boisclair bounced back from his two-inning start against East Stroudsburg. He tossed a complete game to improve to 3-1, allowing two runs on five hits and a walk while striking out six.
Millersville has now won seven of eight and closes out the series with Lock Haven Monday at Cooper Park.
