GAME OVERVIEW• The Millersville women's lacrosse team looks to score its first victory of the year when it battles the Shepherd Rams in the second of a five-game homestand to begin the 2015 season.
• The Black and Gold suffered a gut wrenching 20-19 loss to Holy Family in their season opener on a cold and foggy night. Action swayed back and forth throughout with the teams needing an overtime period to decide the winner. The Marauders thought they had the game in hand with a fast break goal scored by
Bridget Hufnagel. The officials checked Hufnagel's stick after the celebration and the goal was waved off.
• Millersville (0-1) had six players score in the home opener with freshman
Sabrina Fusco scoring seven goals to lead the team.
Bridget Hufnagel added five goals and two assists in her debut match for the Marauders. Midfielder
Hannah Vogel added a hat track and now has 112 career goals. Goalkeeper
Shannon Davis made her collegiate debut between the pipes and totaled six saves in 66 minutes of action.
•
Hannah Vogel scored a last second goal that lifted the Marauders to a 15-14 win over Shepherd a season ago. Millersville led for the majority of the game and was up by four goals (14-10) with only 13 minutes remaining. Shepherd stormed back and tied the game at 14 goals apiece with Georgia Karr's unassisted score. With 22 seconds left on the clock, Vogel sprinted up the right wing and flicked in the game-winning effort. The Rams did win the ensuing draw control, but the Black and Gold defense put the clamps on, did not allow a shot, forced Shepherd into a turnover, and ran out the remaining seconds on the clock.
• Millersville's 20 goals were the most in a season opener under Coach
Mia Hall and the team's best overall effort since 2010.
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• The Shepherd Rams dropped their season opener at nationally ranked No. 19 Seton Hill by the score of 18-6 in a non-conference contest.
