The 2004-05 women's basketball team was
honored for its PSAC Championship.Millersville, Pa. - A slow start to the second half all but ended Millersville's hopes of an upset against No. 19 Bloomsburg Saturday in Pucillo Gymnasium. Bloomsburg shot 54 percent from the field and hit 10 3-pointers to methodically pull away for an 87-59 win.
Millersville's (11-16, 8-14 PSAC) season comes to an end without a postseason bid for the first time in 18 seasons and its first sub.500 record since 1991--
Mary Fleig's first on the job. The Marauders' played the entire season without 2014 All-PSAC East selection
Celeste Robinson and fellow All-PSAC East pick
Carly Gallagher missed the final 13 games of the season. Millersville was 10-4 at the time of her injury and went 1-12 without her in the lineup. Still, the Marauders had an outside shot at the postseason entering Saturday's game. It needed a win over Bloomsburg and an East Stroudsburg win at Kutztown.
The Marauders couldn't hold up their end of the deal, falling behind 39-23 at the half with red-hot shooting from the Huskies. That only continued in the second period as Bloomsburg drilled 59.4 percent of its shots from the field and 6-of-9 from three. The Marauders missed the first eight field goal attempts of the half and scored just one point in the first 6:37. Bloomsburg dropped in 18 points in that span to build a 57-24 lead.
Shelby Reimer helped the Marauders close the gap with 14 second-half points that included four of her five 3-pointers. She finished with a team-high 17.
Aunjel Van Brakle scored 13 points, hitting 7-of-8 free throws. Bloomsburg placed four scorers in double figures. Leading the way was Marla Simmons with 24.
Along with Gallagher, who was injured on the sidelines,
Alexis Martin and
Sabina Mehmedovic played their final games in Pucillo Gymnasium.
