Williamston, N.C. - Williamston, N.C. has become Millersville's home away from home. The Marauders improved to 5-0 this season and 14-2 all-time in games played in the town after piling up 28 runs in a doubleheader sweep of Le Moyne Saturday. The games were won by scores of 15-1 and 13-5.
Millersville's (6-2) lineup has produced 58 runs on 64 hits in its five-game winning streak since being shutout by Winston-Salem State in game three of the opening weekend. The offensive explosion in Williamston is nothing new for the Marauders, though, as they have scored at least nine runs in 11 of the 16 games played there including all five this season.
Over the last five games, five Marauders have posted batting averages over .400 and eight different players have hit home runs.
Dan Stoltzfus, who hit one in game two of Saturday's doubleheader, increased his season total to four. That's already more than 2014 team leaders
Dan Johnson and
Zach Stone hit in the entire season.
Chas McCormick has gone a team-best 10-for-18 (.556) with seven runs, two doubles, a homer, four walks and 12 RBIs during the streak.
On Saturday, Stoltzfus went 4-for-4 with four RBIs, three walks, three runs, a double and homer. McCormick and
Tyler Orris also recorded four hits. Orris scored six runs in the twinbill.
Lost in all the offense was another lights-out performance from righty
Chris Murphy in game one. Murphy uncharacteristically allowed a self-inflicted run in the first inning but that was all Le Moyne would get. He surrendered only three hits and struck out seven in five innings to improve to 3-0 with a 1.00 ERA and 17 strikeouts in 18 innings. Game two, a nine-inning affair, saw
Brandon Miller pick up the win after allowing four runs on eight hits and striking out six through six innings.
Dylan Boisclair fanned two in a perfect inning of work, giving him seven scoreless innings with seven strikeouts and two hits allowed this season.
The opener didn't start well for the Marauders. Murphy issued a walk, hit the second batter with a pitch and then a fielding error put runners in scoring position. A wild pitch to the next batter plated a run. After walking another to load the bases, Murphy did what Murphy does and rallied to strikeout the side with the bases loaded. The Marauder bats answered immediately. Orris led off with a single and McCormick doubled to left.
Jeremy Musser singled to push in the team's second run of the inning.
The flood gates broke open in the second when a Le Moyne error helped Millersville to a five-run inning that included two-run doubles from Stoltzfus and
Luke Emling. Millersville added five more in the third. The first run came off of
David Summerfield's first career home run.
Dan Neff hit a solo homer and
Jeremy Musser hit a two-run blast in the sixth to cap Millersville's scoring at 15.
After Murphy exited,
Stephen Muscovitch and
Reid Anderson both struck out two in back-to-back perfect innings.
Game two was a close game until Millersville erupted for seven runs in the sixth inning. Le Moyne again struck early, scoring four of its runs off of Miller in the first two innings. Miller settled in, though, and tossed four shutout innings after that. The Marauders scored three runs in the second on RBI doubles from Orris and
Tyler McDonald and a RBI single from McCormick. Millersville took the lead for good with three more in the third. The first run of the inning came on Stoltzfus' solo homer.
The Marauders opened a sizable advantage in seventh with the help of a pair of Le Moyne errors. McCormick doubled in two, Musser brought home one with a single and
Mitch Stoltzfus' sacrifice fly scored Musser. McDonald capped a three-hit, four-RBI game with a three-run home run to left center.
Along with Boisclair's dominant seventh,
Jesse Mowen threw a scoreless eighth.
Cody Stoneback gave up one in the ninth.
Millersville is schedule to play Le Moyne Sunday at 11 a.m.
