Wilmington, Del. - Fueled by
Celeste Robinson's season-high 23 points, the Millersville women's basketball continued its blazing run through the month of December by topping homestanding Goldey-Beacom 57-45 Thursday afternoon.
Now winners of six of their last seven, the Marauders (7-4) needed the first 20 minutes to shake off the rust accumulated from a near-two week hiatus from the court. The score stood locked at 24-24 at the half, but the third and fourth quarters belonged to Robinson. Robinson scored 17 of her 23 in the final 20 minutes, shooting 8-of-9 from the field and never leaving the court.
Robinson scored the first two buckets and nine of Millersville's first 11 points in the third quarter.
Shelby Reimer's 3-pointer with 1:11 left in the third quarter pushed Millersville's lead to 40-31. Robinson started the fourth quarter the same way she started the third. She finished the quarter with eight more points and was helped by
Tyisha White, who hit a 3-pointer and totaled seven of her 11 in the final stanza.
While Millersville made 13-of-27 (.481) shots from the field, it held Goldey-Beacom to 5-of-27 (.185) shooting in the second half. Robinson's 23 came within three of her career high and Millersville's first 20-point performance of the season. She made half of the team's 22 field goals, finishing 11-of-16 from the field. White has scored 11 in each of the last two games. Reimer chipped in 10 points and three assists.
Millersville has now held five of its last six opponents under 60 points and three of the last four under 30 percent shooting. The team went 5-1 in December with the lone loss coming by five points to nationally-ranked California (Pa.).
Millersville returns to Pucillo Gymnasium Sunday for its first home game in nearly a month. The Marauders host Pitt-Johnstown at 1 p.m.
