Millersville Outlasts Lincoln for Double Overtime Win

Millersville, Pa. - Millersville women's basketball overcame deficits in regulation and in both overtime periods to grind out a hard-fought 72-66 double overtime victory Sunday afternoon at home over Lincoln.

Celeste Robinson's 19 points, nine rebounds, four blocks and three assists led four Marauders in double figures. Yasmin Cooper tallied a double-double of 12 points and 16 rebounds. Shelby Reimer added 14 points and Aunjel Van Brakle scored a career-high 17, and her free throw shooting was especially key down the stretch.

Much maligned from the free throw line this season (.552 percent through four games), the Marauders pulled out the win at the stripe Sunday. The Marauders trailed the Lions 63-61 with just over three minutes remaining in the second overtime period. Robinson made one of two, and after forcing a turnover, Van Brakle hit two more, giving the Marauders the lead for good. Millersville went on to connect on 7-of-10 free throws and outscore the Lions 11-3 over the final three minutes of action. Robinson and Van Brakle teamed to deal the Lions the final, crushing blow with 36 seconds left.

Robinson made the first of two free throw attempts. Her second missed but was gathered by Van Brakle, who scored and was fouled. She converted the three-point play, boosting Millersville's lead from three to six. Van Brakle made all seven of her free throws in the game.

The win ended Millersville's three-game losing streak and came against a team that won 22 games in 2014-15 and had recently defeated West Chester. Millersville raced to an early 16-7 lead by making 7-of-9 field goals in the first quarter. The Marauders led by eight at the mid-way point and shot 53.8 percent through two quarters.

Lincoln, ratcheted up its defense in the third and fourth quarters, holding the Marauders to just 16 points over the final 20 minutes of regulation. Millersville had not trailed the entire game until Teira Pendleton sank a jumper with 52 seconds left in regulation. Courtney Hinnant answered for the Marauders with a jumper 22 seconds later, tying the score at 51. Both teams had looks at 3-pointers before time expired, but both missed.

In the first overtime, Cooper hit a pair of free throws with 2:23 to play but the Marauders' lead was wiped away. Lincoln's Vivevca Nwagbaraocha scored for two and after a two consecutive Marauder turnovers, Pendleton was fouled at the top of the key with just two seconds to play. With her team trailing by one, Pendleton made the first but missed the second, keeping the score tied at 58 and sending the game into the second overtime where the Marauders pulled away.

Millersville held Lincoln to 32.4 percent shooting from the field while shooting 41.5 percent. Millersville held a 51-43 advantage in rebounds and picked up 16 second chance points.
