Clarion, Pa. – The Millersville men's basketball team fought their way back into the game and cut the deficit to eight points, 69-61, when
Ricky Mosley sunk a pair of free throws with 5:33 remaining. That was the closest the Marauders came as the Clarion Golden Eagles pulled away for a 79-68 win at Waldo S. Tippin Gymnasium on Sunday.
The Golden Eagles got off to a scorching start from the field bolting to a 15-point halftime lead as BJ Andrews hit a 3-pointer with 24 seconds remaining before halftime with the lead standing at 40-25 for Clarion. The Golden Eagles shot 45 percent from the field during the first half and were 3-8 from 3-point range.
Clarion started the second half on fire and upped the lead to 22 at 49-27 after Tim Gill converted on an and-one three-point play at the 16:38 mark. The Marauders clawed their way back into the contest thanks to strong defense as they caused seven second half turnovers.
Millersville shot 36.8% (25-68) from the floor and 72.2% from the free throw line (13-18). Millersville dropped to 2-2 overall and 2-1 in the PSAC Eastern Division. The Golden Eagles improved to 3-2 and 3-0 in the PSAC West.
The Black & Gold had three players finish in double figures.
Ricky Mosley had his most efficient game of the season finishing with a team-high 17 points on 7-12 shooting from the field. Mosley also collected nine rebounds and blocked a shot in the second half. Also in double figures were
Shawn Williams and
Cornell Yarde II who finished with 15 and 13 points apiece.
The Marauders remain on the road for a pair of non-conference contests. Millersville squares off against Chestnut Hill on Wednesday, Nov. 25 and Goldey-Beacom on Saturday, Nov. 28. Tipoff against the Griffins is slated for 1 p.m.
