Marauders Pull Away in 3OT

Erie, Pa. – With the score deadlocked after the end of the second overtime period, a barrage of 3-pointers sparked by a pair from Shawn Williams helped the Millersville men's basketball team go on a 13-4 in 3OT that sealed a 75-66 road victory over Gannon. Williams finished with a career-high 26 points, added 10 rebounds and three assists. The Marauders improve to 2-1 overall and are 2-0 in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference.

The Marauders kicked off the third overtime period with a pair of missed 3-pointers by Shawn Williams and Tommy Patterson, but an offensive rebound by Patterson led to a converted trey putting the Ville up 65-62. Millersville never looked back as Williams hit another trey on the ensuing possession forcing a John T. Reilly timeout. The Black & Gold held Gannon to 1-5 shooting and forced three turnovers in the decisive overtime period. Millersville shot 22.9 percent (8-35) from 3-point range.

Gannon (0-2) built its largest lead of the game in the first half (10), but a buzzer beating 3-pointer by Shawn Williams capped off a 14-7 run to close out the half. The Golden Knights carried a 28-25 lead into the halftime break.

Millersville built an 11 point lead to begin the second half that was capped off by a Demerik Weglinski layup at the 11:00 mark (43-32). The Golden Knights clawed their way back into the game with strong defense and tied it up at 48-48 with just over three minutes left in the second half. A pair of made free throws by Marcus Jones with five second left put Gannon up three, but Shawn Williams knocked down a cold blooded three as time expired to send the game into overtime.
