Millersville (1-1) has won four-straight against Mansfield, including two-straight on the Mountaineers home court. Mansfield opened up with red-hot shooting especially from freshman forward Matt Tamanosky who was at the forefront of opening up a Mountaineer 10-8 lead. Tamanosky finished hitting 7-of-10 shots from the floor and grabbing 10 boards to lead Mansfield in a gutsy effort. Â Millersville had an answer, it came via the 3-pointer.
Jon Lott converted on the game's first 3-pointer and
Shawn Williams hit a trey to put the Marauders up 13-10 forcing a Pat Zipfel timeout.
Both teams traded baskets through the remainder of the first half, but Millersville carried a 29-27 lead into the halftime break. Williams was extremely efficient in the first pouring in 11 points, tallying six boards and two steals. Â
In the second half,
Cornell Yarde II established himself as the focal point of coach
Fred Thompson's offence. Yarde II struggled with turnovers in the first, but slashed into the paint at will in the second scoring 10 of his game-high 21 points.
Mansfield tied the game twice with the last being at the 16:48 mark, but was never able to take over the lead. The Mountaineers trailed by just six points with 3:59 to play, but Millersville built its lead over the final minutes to hold on for the PSAC East victory. The Ville finished the game on a 7-2 run and finished shooting 39.7% from the field.
