Millersville Finishes Season with Four-Straight Victories

Kutztown, Pa. - The Millersville volleyball team finished the 2015 season with a road win over Kutztown in four sets Saturday (26-24, 25-23, 8-25, 25-22).

The Marauders were led by the sophomore tandem of Erin Harman and Kelsi Ceriani once again as they both recorded double-digit kills. Harman posted 17 and Ceriani added 10. Senior Brooklyn Smith had 22 digs and two assists while Grace Dawson had 35 assists to go with 14 digs.

Brooklyn Smith finished with 697 digs in her senior season and the all-time digs leader at Millersville now has 2,249 digs for her career. Taylor Smith ended her career at Millersville tied for fourth all-time in service aces with 194. Harman led the Marauders with 358 kills, placing her fifth all-time for kills in a senior season. Dawson's 1,037 assists places her fourth all-time at Millersville in assists for a single season.

The first set was tight the entire way as it featured seven ties. Millersville held a close lead for the majority of the set until they committed an error and Kutztown capitalized with a service ace and a kill from Shannon Restrepo to take a 22-20 lead. Millersville would call a timeout and battled back to tie the score at 23 when Rhianna Kalescky and Ceriani recorded kills. With the score knotted at 23, Ceriani recorded the last three Marauder points via kill to give Millersville a 26-24 set victory.

In the second set, it was the Golden Bears who had control early as Millersville was forced to climb back into the set, tying the score at 12. Millersville would take the next three points and never relinquish their lead. With the score 22-20, Ceriani and Harman sent home kills and Kutztown committed a pair of errors for a 25-23 victory.

The third set was all Kutztown as the Golden Bears jumped out to a 10-0 lead, eventually defeating Millersville 25-8. In the fourth, Kutztown kept the momentum and jumped out to an early lead before the Marauders tied the score at 8. The Marauders took the next four points to hold a four point lead as they looked to finish off Kutztown. The Golden Bears would battle back, though, tying the score at 21 when they sent home a pair of kills. After a Millersville timeout, the teams traded errors before Erika Green recorded the last two points for Millersville by kill.

Millersville finishes the season 18-15 (8-14 PSAC) overall, an impressive feat considering the early injuries suffered by senior Kayla Wallace and impact-freshman Brittany Ford.
