Millersville jumped out to an early lead in the first set as Harman and Kaledas struck with a pair of kills. With the score 3-2 in favor of the Marauders, Millersville took the next three points as a result of two Bald Eagle errors and a Kalescky kill. Millersville extended its lead to five when
Katie Witwer and
Erin Harman sent home kills followed by an
Alexis Hamm service ace to make the score 10-5. Lock Haven would respond by taking the next three points before Harman shut down the rally with another kill. After Lock Haven's Megan Flick recorded a kill, the deficit was just two for the Bald Eagles (14-12). It was here when Millersville put distance between the two squads extending their lead to eight when
Taylor Smith recorded three consecutive service aces. With Lock Haven reeling, Witwer and Harman sent home kills to finish the first set.
In the second set, Lock Haven came out swinging to the tune of 13-3 lead forcing a Millersville timeout. The Marauders seemed rejuvenated after the break as they began to battle back and cut the deficit to two points (17-15). Lock Haven responded when Flick sent home a kill to begin a streak where the Bald Eagles score five of the next six points.Â
Taylor Smith attempted to bring the Marauders back as she served for four straight Millersville points and Lock Haven called timeout with the score knotted at 22. After the break, Lock Haven recorded two kills and Millersville committed an error giving the set to the Bald Eagles.
Set three began even with the two teams trading points. The score was tied at eight when
Alexis Hamm served for three Marauder points to give them the lead. Lock Haven responded and took the lead at 13-12 before Millersville recorded six of the next seven points making their lead 18-14. The Bald Eagles tried to mount a comeback but Kelsi Ceriana and Witwer sent home kills forcing another Lock Haven timeout. Witwer and Ceriana sent home another two kills out of the timeout and Lock Haven committed an error to give Millersville the third set.
In the fourth set, Millersville dug itself a big hole as Lock Haven jumped out to an 11-5 lead. After a Millersville timeout, the Marauders committed an error and Sarah Gomish recorded three straight kills to give the Bald Eagles a 15-5 advantage. The Marauder tried to stage a comeback but the offense of Lock Haven was too much as Gomish and Brittany Moyer piled on with more kills before Flick finished off the set 25-12 in the same fashion.
In the fifth set, Lock Haven jumped out to a 4-1 lead when Coach
Brian Smith called a timeout for Millersville. Out of the break,
Emily Kaledas sent home one of her nine kills but Moyer answered with one of her own. After Millersville committed consecutive errors, the Marauders took another timeout trailing by six. Lock Haven kept the distance between the two sides before committing a pair of errors themselves making the score just 12-8. They would respond after a timeout however, as Gomish and Flick once again recorded kills to eventually top Millersville 15-11.
Millersville has a quick turnaround as it hosts Pitt-Johnstown tomorrow for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
