Kutztown's Ground Game Buries Marauders

Kutztown, Pa. - Millersville's Phil Overton caught a touchdown and rushed for another in the second half but the knock out blow had already been delivered by Kutztown's rushing attack in the first half. The Golden Bears churned out 266 rushing yards and 322 yards of offense in the first 30 minutes en route to a 47-14 win over the Marauders Saturday night.

Millersville (0-5, 0-2 PSAC East) limited to Kutztown (3-2, 2-0 PSAC) to 13 points and 178 yards in the second half, and an offense that mustered just 50 yards of offense in the first half picked up 195 in the second. But Kutztown raced to a 34-0 lead at the half behind three rushing touchdowns from Terry Williams, one from Darrell Scott and a TD pass from Chad Barton to Kodi Reed. Reed's touchdown catch was the 24th of his career and moved him into first place on Kutztown's career list.

With just over two minutes left in the third quarter, Millersville took advantage of a bad snap on a Kutztown punt attempt, taking over at the Kutztown 25-yard-line. J.J. Paige completed a pair of passes on the drive including a six-yard toss to Overton. The score was the third of the season for the rookie.

That was one of three times that the Millersville offense moved into Kutztown territory. Two of the drives started inside the Kutztown 50. One on the bad snap and the other on a fourth quarter interception from Alpha Khan. The pick was the first of Khan's career and the seventh in five games for the Marauders.

The interception gave Millersville the ball at the 49. Paige completed three passes and rushed for two times on the drive. His 22-yard completion to Kevin Wiggins put the ball at the Kutztown 1-yard-line, and Overton plunged in from there.

Millersville committed only one penalty for 10 yards but lost a fumble, had one punt blocked that led to Kutztown touchdown and totaled 245 yards of offense. Millersville has not totaled 300 yards of offense in any game this season. Cimirrow Moat led the Marauders with 49 ground yards. J.J. Paige went 14-for-21 for 141 yards through the air and was sacked four times--all in the first half.

Barton entered the game as the PSAC leader in three passing categories and went just 7-for-19 for 98 yards. But little yardage was needed through the air as Williams totaled 175, Scott added 94 and James Wah Jr. hit the 100-yard mark thanks to a 62-yard jaunt late in the fourth.

Millersville returns home to host Bloomsburg next Saturday at 4 p.m.
