Women’s Soccer Downed by the Griffins

Millersville, Pa. – The Millersville women's soccer team was unable to find consistent attacking offense on Saturday afternoon as the Seton Hill Griffins scored the go-ahead goal in the 69th minute to upend the Marauders, 3-1. Seton Hill improves to 7-8-1 overall and 5-8-1 in the PSAC while Millersville falls to 5-10 and 4-10 within conference play.
Both squads traded possession back-and-forth for the first 40 minutes with neither team able to find the back of the net. Freshman forward Emily LoPresti got the Griffin offense on the board in the 41st minute on an Emma Porteous assist. Seton Hill carried its 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
On the counter attack, Alexandrea Powell scored the equalizer in the 50th minute. Stacie Hallinan was able to slip the ball into Powell who fired her attempt into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
Megan Warman scored the go-ahead goal for the Griffins in the 69th minute off of a Madison Swerlzer helper. Warman was able to gain positioning within the 18-yard box and immediately fired the ball into the upper left corner of the net. In the 83rd minute, Emma Bearninger added an insurance effort for Seton Hill as the sophomore scored an unassisted goal.
For the game, Seton Hill outshot Millersville by a 19-14 margin and held a 5-4 advantage in corner kicks. Samantha Wolfe received the loss in goal for the Ville as she recorded a match-high eight saves including six in the second period.
Next, the Marauders embark on their final road contest of the 2015 season when they travel to Mansfield on Tuesday, Oct. 27. The Mountaineers suffered a 4-1 defeat to Shippensburg on Saturday afternoon as they sport an overall record of 3-11-1 (2-11-1 PSAC). Kickoff is slated for 4 p.m.
