Wheeling, WV – In a non-conference road matchup, the Millersville men's soccer team fell to Wheeling Jesuit 1-0 on Wednesday evening.
The Cardinals only registered two shots in the match, but made their first and only shot of the first period count as the goal was enough to hold off the No. 14 ranked Millersville Marauders.
In 20th minute, Jordan Frommeyer fed Daniel Undreniner from the right wing as Undreniner was able to flick his shot attempt into the back of the net. The loss dropped the Marauders to 11-2-1 overall and they now have a 3-1-1 non-conference record.
Kohl Orner received the loss in net and Millersville had eight different players record a shot against the Cardinals.
Jaime Vazquez recorded five shots and
Jesse Zimmerman fired two as each player recorded one shot on target. Zimmerman nearly put the Marauders on the board in the fifth minute, but his shot attempt was corralled by Wheeling Jesuit keeper Mathew McCormick.
The Marauders came out of the half time break attacking as they quickly fed the ball to
Jaime Vazquez in the 50th minute, but his curling shot was once again stymied by McCormick. The Black & Gold made one last effort to equalize in the 81st minute as a
Ben Johnston shot attempt gave the Marauders a corner kick attempt. Johnston whipped in the corner kick cross, but was unable to find a teammate within the 18-yard box.
It was only Millersville's third game of the season in which their offense failed to score. The Marauders held a 13-2 advantage in shots and held a 10-0 benefit in corner kicks over Wheeling Jesuit (8-6-1). Both teams combined to receive a total of four yellow cards and the Cardinals even received a red card caution in the 63rd minute.
Millersville returns to the friendly confines of Pucillo Field on Saturday, Oct. 24 for a pivotal PSAC matchup with Seton Hill. The Griffins defeated Slippery Rock on Wednesday and own a 5-9-1 overall record and are 3-5 in PSAC play. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
