10/17/2015 5:20:00 PM | Women's Soccer
Indiana, Pa. – The Millersville women's soccer team scored the first goal of the match but was unable to nurse its lead as it fell by a 2-1 score in overtime to the IUP Crimson Hawks. The loss dropped the Marauders overall and conference record to 4-9. IUP improves to 7-5-2 overall and 6-4-2 in conference action.
Neither team was able to find the back of the net in the first half although the Crimson Hawks held a 5-4 advantage in shots. The most dangerous opportunity to score for the Ville came in the 15th minute. Savannah Hall delivered a cross inside of the box off of a corner kick that found the right foot of Megan Kelly who fired her shot attempt on target but it was saved by keeper Jessica Printz.
The Marauders opened the second period with possession and immediately marched down the pitch and scored at the 45:55 mark. Forward Halie Parker delivered a pass within the 18-yard box and the ball was back heeled by Victoria Kramer into the back of the net. The goal represented Kramer's fifth goal of the season which is the second most on Matt Procopio's squad.
Millersville held the 1-0 lead for nearly 25 minutes, but an IUP counter attack led to the equalizer in the 70th minute. Cassidy Ledonne settled the ball down after a Kelly Jacobson corner kick and was able to beat MU keeper Samantha Wolfe. The junior keeper finished the match with four saves.
The score remained tied at 1-1 through the regulation 90 minutes. IUP was able to find the game-winner in the 99th minute as Lexie Paulluconi headed the ball from 10-yards out past Wolfe.
The Marauders were extremely efficient at placing their shots on target as seven of their 10 attempts were on the home team's goal frame. Millersville also held a 7-5 advantage in corner kicks.
The Black & Gold return to action tomorrow for their lone non-conference matchup of the season. Millersville travels to Philadelphia to battle Lincoln College as the match is slated to kickoff at 4 p.m.
