Millersville, Pa. – Despite posting 17 shots the Millersville women's soccer team was unable to find the back of the net, and it fell 2-0 to the visiting California (Pa.) Vulcans. The Marauders welcomed back several past Black & Gold greats for Alumni Day at Pucillo Field on Saturday afternoon.
California (5-5-3, 5-4-3) stunned the Marauders in the fourth minute as Francesca Scenna headed the ball past Ville keeper Samantha Wolfe on a corner kick attempt. Midfielder Danielle Kearns of the Vulcans was credited with the assist.
Millersville would go on to generate 10 shot attempts within the first period, placing three of the 10 shots on the opposing goal frame. The Vulcans carried their 1-0 lead into the halftime break.
The Marauders opened the second period looking to out-run their opponents and were nearly successful in the 47th minute. Victoria Kramer received a perfectly placed through ball and fired a shot on target but Cal U keeper Meghan Jayes was there to stonewall the attempt. The Marauders once again looked to score a little over five minutes later, but the Alexandrea Powell shot attempt was once again saved by Jayes. The junior keeper finished the match with nine saves.
The Vulcans added to its lead at the 56:03 mark when freshman Aly Greenstein slid the ball into the right corner of the net past Ville keeper Samantha Wolfe.
