Complete Game Notes (.PDF)GAME OVERVIEW• After winning four in a row, the Marauders have dropped two in a row and their record has fallen under .500. East Stroudsburg visits Pucillo Gymnasium playing its best basketball of the season, riding a six-game winning streak. While Millersville holds a 98-52 lead in the all-time series, East Stroudsburg has had Millersville's number of late, winning four in a row and 10 of the last 12. Last season, ESU won all three games, including on in the PSAC Tournament, by an average margin of 28 points per game. In the first meeting of 2014-15, ESU won by 12. Each of ESU's last eight wins in the series have been by a double-digit point spread. Millersville's last win in the series came in 2012-13 at Pucillo Gymnasium by a 78-69 score.
• With the Marauders missing several key offensive pieces,
Tavon Parker has been forced to take on more of the offensive load. He has averaged 13 shot attempts over the last four games after averaging 8.5 shot attempts in the first six. He's made at least two threes in each of the last six games. Parker, however, is struggling converting those increased shots. He's shooting 31.1 percent on the season and hasn't made 40 percent of his shots in a game since hitting 3-of-5 in his debut on Dec. 20. Parker is a capable scorer, though. As a freshman in 2013-14, Parker shot 42.5 percent from the field and 38.7 percent from three. He hit three or more threes in five of his 15 games. He averaged 13.4 points per game and scored in double figures in six consecutive games before his season ended on Jan. 18. Since the start of the run , the Marauders are 8-4 when Parker scores in double figures.
• Freshman
Sam Light is well on his way to a record-setting freshman season. His 87.6 free throw percentage ranks third in the PSAC, but his 105 free throws is 50 more than the player in first place and 30 more than the player in second. His current percentage would rank 14th all-time in the PSAC and first at Millersville, setting a record that has stood since 1960. Light has already attempted 43 more free throws than record holder , Gary Cable (.855) did in 1959-60. Light averages 4.4 free throw makes per game, meaning that nearly 40 percent of his points this season have come from the line.
• A key against East Stroudsburg is taking care of the basketball. Millersville committed 19 turnovers in the first meeting this season, and over the last three seasons, Millersville has averaged 19 turnovers per game against the Warriors. ESU has generated at least 12 steals in every game this season generates a league-leading 19.3 turnovers per game. The Warriors are also second in steals. Millersville has commited the fourth-most turnovers in the PSAC, averaging 16.8 per game. The Marauders force 18.1, placing them sixth in turnover margin, however. Millersville strangely averages more turnovers in wins (17.3) than in losses (16.0).
• Two of the league's top assist men play Saturday. ESU's Matt Tobin leads the league at 6.2 per game.
Shawn Williams is 10th at 3.5 per game. Additionally, Tobin ranks third in steals (2.4) while Williams ranks seventh (2.0)
SCOUTING THE OPPONENT• After winning the PSAC Championship for the second time in three seasons, East Stroudsburg was ranked as high as No. 4 in the nation. An inconsistent start had the Warriors at 8-5, but they have since won six in a row, averaging better than 96 points per game over that stretch. They have scored at least 90 points in five of those six games. Senior Whis Grant was a preseason second team All-American and entered the year third in Division II active scoring leaders with 1,487. However, his 13.5 scoring average and 38 percent shooting are all career lows. He has scored in double figures in all six of ESU's recent wins. East Stroudsburg is the league's highest-scoring offense by nearly nine points per game, averaging 86.2. It also ranks first in turnover margin and assist/turnover ratio.
