California, Pa. - After beginning the season with a huge upset over No. 7-ranked Slippery Rock, the Millersville women's soccer team traveled to California (Pa.) to battle the 12th-ranked Vulcans. California (2-0, 2-0 PSAC) ended up scoring a two-goal victory over Millersville, (1-1, 1-1 PSAC) 3-1.
The scoring began at the 9:05 mark when Danielle Kearns netted her first goal on the season fooling Marauder goalie
Olivia Webber. Kearns was able to get a clear look on net thanks to a beautiful set up by midfielder Chelsea Crocket who received the assist on the play. The Vulcans finished the first half with the 1-0 lead.
At the beginning of the second half the Marauders had a defensive blunder in front of Webber which resulted in a own-goal scored making it 2-0. But Millersville was able to cut into the lead at the 78:38 mark when Kristin Lepely was on the receiving end of a brilliant corner by
Emily Purcell. The Vulcans then scored an insurance goal in the final minute of play when Haley Henderson scored her third goal of 2014.
The Vulcans out-shot Millersville 16-5 while putting seven of the 16 shots on net. Meanwhile California also held the corner kick lead over the Marauders, 6-3.
Millersville will remain on the road for its next game when it travesl to Kutztown Wednesday. Kick-off is scheduled for 3 p.m.
