Millersville, Pa. - Led by two goals from
Sarah Bomberger, the No. 1 Millersville field hockey team stormed to a 6-0 victory at Mansfield Saturday afternoon, improving its season record to an unblemished 7-0.
Millersville's (7-0, 5-0 PSAC) performance was nothing short of dominant. The Marauders out-shot Mansfield (2-5, 2-3 PSAC) by a 40-2 margin and put 34 of those shots on goal. Millersville also piled up 17 penalty corners to Mansfield's two.
Bomberger led the scoring barrage with two goals--her first two of the season.
Rachel Dickinson assisted on Bomberger's first tally and added a goal of her own in the 23rd minute. Fellow senior
Katelyn Zapp, in her first game back from injury, scored her team-leading eighth goal of the season, which gave the Marauders an early 2-0 lead.
Freshman
Kathleen Bishop became the 14th Marauder to score a goal in the first seven games when she capped the first half with no time left on the clock.
Bomberger's second goal came on an assist from
Champayne Hess just 3:52 into the second half.
Arianna Grays scored the Marauders' final goal on an assist from freshman
Katie DeLuca.
After making 12 saves against West Chester one game ago,
Lauren Sotzin had a relatively uneventful evening between the pipes. She needed to make only one save and that came with no time remaining in the game. The shutout marked the 22nd of Sotzin's career. Sotzin's counterpart Lauren Lawson made 25 saves.
Millersville returns home to host Slippery Rock on Saturday, Oct. 4.
