Elkins, W. Va. - The Marauders traveled to West Virginia Saturday where they battled Davis & Elkins for 110:00 minutes resulting in a 2-2 tie. The Marauders and Senators traded goals throughout the second half before each team was held scoreless in the two resulting overtimes.
Millersville (1-2-1) totaled 19 shots in the game, putting five of them on goal. Meanwhile, Davis & Elkins (0-3-1) put 10 of their 22 total shots on net.
Jaime Vazquez continued his strong start to the 2014 season adding another goal bringing his total to three after the first four games.
The Senators were able to create several threatening opportunities in front of net during the first half but Millersville goalkeeper
David Brubaker made five timely saves keeping the game scoreless after 45:00 minutes. But in just the second minute after the half-time break, Davis & Elkins was finally able to beat Brubaker as Lukas Grosse-Puppendahl netted his first goal of the season. The Marauders quickly answered back nearly 10 minutes later when
Jaime Vazquez was able to get a clean look on net thanks to a beautiful assist by
Ahmed Qaisi.
At the 58:38 mark, the Senators added what was thought to be the go-ahead goal courtesy of forward James Pucci. However, the Marauders had other ideas as Alex LeFavor scored his first goal of 2014, which answered back in the closing minutes of the half making the score 2-2 at the end of regulation.
Both teams played evenly through both OT periods resulting in Millersville's first tie of 2014. The Marauders will remain on the road this week when they travel to Brookville N.Y. this Wednesday to take on LIU Post. Kick-off is scheduled for 4 p.m.
