Wrestling Program Unveils 2014-15 Recruiting Class
5/8/2014 9:31:00 AM | Wrestling
Millersville, Pa. - Millersville wrestling coaches Todd Roberts and Biff Walizer bolstered the program's roster with a sizable recruiting haul for the 2014-15 season. Roberts inked commitments from 16 freshmen.
With the program losing just three seniors following the 2013-14 season, competition should be heated for starting spots considering the talent and size of the incoming class. The Marauders started three sophomores and a pair of freshmen in 125-pound Austin Camacci and 197-pound Aram Moffitt for the majority of the season, but that didn't stop Roberts from infusing even more youth into the lineup. The recruiting class features at least one wrestler in each weight class and includes an impressive 13 state qualifiers and 13 section and/or district champions.
Connor Sheehan (125) from nearby Solanco High School is among the most decorated after finishing as the state runner-up as a junior and taking third-place as a senior. Another local product, Carlisle's Ian Shannon, was the PIAA AAA runner-up at 160 pounds in 2014. Roberts also attracted two sets of teammates in Spring Grove's Mike Hartman and Zack Clingan and Cherokee High School's Alex Baider and D.J. Mele. Hartman and Clingan helped Spring Grove qualify for the PIAA AAA Dual Meet Championships in 2012-13. Hartman placed seventh at the PIAA Championships as a senior. Moffitt may receive some competition from Jordan Wertz of Boyertown and Zachary Yackenchick from Blue Mountain. Wertz placed seventh at the state championships last season, and Yackenchick won 28 matches as a senior. Millersville didn't have a true heavyweight in 2013-14 so David Wuestner of Lower Dauphin will be able to make an immediate impact. He, too, was a state qualifier.
