Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse team saw a three-point lead slip away in the closing moments of Wednesday afternoon's PSAC lacrosse game against Shippensburg. The Raiders scored the final four goals of the game en route to a one point victory over the Marauders, 8-7.
Millersville (5-11, 1-10 PSAC) led 4-3 at halftime and outscored Shippensburg (8-8, 5-6 PSAC) 3-1 to begin the second period and took a 7-4 advantage with under 12 minutes left on the scoreboard.
That is when things fell apart for the Black and Gold. Just 10 seconds after midfielder
Hannah Vogel scored her third goal of the game the Raiders' Annemarie Cericola ran through the Millersville defense and netted her only score of the game to close the home team's gap to 7-5.
That score shifted momentum in favor of Shippensburg as the Raiders scored two more times in the next four minutes to knot the game at seven scores apiece.
With five minutes remaining in the contest Vogel fired a shot on the cage, but was denied by Ally Frymoyer's 13th save of day. Shippensburg took the ball the length of the field and the Raiders leading scorer, Sheila Johnson, scored the game winning goal with just 3:15 left to play.
The Black and Gold forced the visitors into three turnovers in the final three minutes, but Millersville was unable to capitalize and dropped its sixth straight game.
The Marauders were led by the hat trick from Vogel and also received scores from
Brooke Fisher,
Caitlin Shannon,
Hannah Corcoran, and
Jaime Damirgian. With her 54th goal of the season, Fisher became only the fifth player in Millersville history to accumulate more than 150 goals in a career. Damirgian's goal made her the ninth Marauder to record double-digit points this season, which is the first time since 2008 that the Black and Gold have had nine players achieve that mark.
Goalkeeper
Kaitlin Crouthamel made nine saves in the loss and senior captain
Becky Donkin picked up three groundballs, caused one turnover, and picked up one draw control in her final game at Biemesderfer Stadium.
Millersville will finish its season on Saturday, April 26 against Bloomsburg. The Marauders will travel to the Huskies home turf for a 1 p.m. start.
