Box Score Millersville, Pa. - The Millersville women's lacrosse team saw a second half lead slip away to Gannon University on a cold and rainy Tuesday afternoon at Chryst Field. The Marauders led 7-4 early in the second period, but the Golden Knights surged back to win the PSAC contest, 13-10.
Despite the unpleasantly cold conditions, Millersville (5-8, 1-7 PSAC) got off to a hot start to begin the game. The Marauders scored five of the game's first six goals to jump out to a 5-1 lead with 11 minutes remaining in the first half. The Marauders spread the wealth during the opening attack as four different players scored in the first 20 minutes. Gannon (7-7, 4-5 PSAC) closed the half on a 2-0 run to narrow the home team's advantage to 5-3 at the break.
The Marauders came out of the locker room by scoring two goals in the first five minutes of the second, after allowing an early score by the Golden Knights, to increase their lead to three goals (7-4).
Gannon battled back and went on a 7-1 run over the next 15 minutes of action to turn a three-point Marauder advantage into a three-point Golden Knight lead. The Black and Gold responded by scoring back-to-back goals from captains
Brooke Fisher and
Becky Donkin to pull within one score (11-10) with 4:27 left on the clock.
Millersville was unable to capture the following draw control, though, and Gannon burned the clock and added two late insurance goals to seal the 13-10 defeat.
In the loss Millersville could be proud of its goalkeeper
Kaitlin Crouthamel. The sophomore goalie posted a career high .552 save percentage and tied a career best with 16 saves. Over the last seven games Crouthamel has averaged 13.57 saves per game.
On the offensive side of the field the Marauders were led by Fisher and freshman
Hannah Corcoran. Fisher scored four times and has tied her career high of 48 goals in a season, with four games still remaining. Corcoran netted her second collegiate hat trick and is now tied for sixth on the team with eight goals this year.
The Black and Gold head west for a pair of PSAC games this weekend. On Friday, April 18 the Marauders will take on Slippery Rock and on Saturday, April 19 Millersville will challenge Seton Hill. Both games are scheduled to begin at 3 p.m.
