Box Score Millersville, Pa. - Nationally ranked West Chester proved to be too much for the Millersville women's lacrosse team on Tuesday afternoon. The Golden Rams finished the PSAC meeting on a 9-1 run and dealt the Marauders a 21-8 defeat.
Millersville (4-5, 1-4 PSAC) tamed the high powered West Chester (6-2, 3-2 PSAC) offense for the entire first half. The Marauders limited the home standing Golden Rams to only seven goals on 19 shots. Black and Gold goalie
Kaitlin Crouthamel made 10 saves in the first period alone and kept Millersville in the game.
Brooke Fisher (2),
Caitlin Shannon, and
Hannah Vogel each scored in the opening period as the Marauders entered the break down three, 7-4.
The second half was a different story, though. West Chester exploded for four goals in the first seven minutes of the second frame and stretched out its lead to 11-4 with only 23 minutes left on the scoreboard.
Millersville kept fighting and climbed right back into the contest with back-to-back goals from Fisher and sophomore
Ella Callahan.
The Golden Rams answered by winning 11 of the next 13 draw controls and went on a 10-2 scoring spree to close the game out. West Chester was led by Hannah Cowan who registered six goals and an assist for seven total points in the match. In total, the Purple and Gold had 10 different players score in the conference matchup.
Fisher netted three goals for the eighth time this season and now has 36 scores on the year. Senior
Becky Donkin caused a season-high four turnovers and midfielder
Hannah Vogel finished with two goals, three draw controls, and two caused turnovers. Crouthamel tied a career-high with 16 saves in the cage.
After starting the season by scoring in double figures in its first six games, the Millersville women's lacrosse team has been held to eight or fewer goals in each of its last three matches.
The Marauders hope to rectify that statistic when they face non-conference opponent Shepherd on Saturday. Last season, the Black and Gold came within one score of the school record for goals in a game with a 27-14 rout of the Rams. Millersville will travel to Shepherd with opening draw set for 1 p.m.
