Box Score Radnor, Pa. - Senior
Brooke Fisher scored her 100th career goal as the Millersville women's lacrosse defeated Holy Family 17-12 in their season opener on Wednesday night.
Millersville (1-0) had five different players score in the season opening win, with Fisher scoring six goals to lead the team. Midfielder
Hannah Vogel added five goals and freshman
Renee Landis registered a hat trick in her first career game. Sophomore goalkeeper
Kaitlin Crouthamel picked up the win in her first collegiate start between the pipes. Crouthamel totaled nine saves in 60-minutes of action.
Holy Family (0-2) couldn't contain the Black and Gold offense in the second half and surrendered 11 second period goals to Millersville. Forward's Brianna Lancetta and Brigit LaRose each scored four times in the loss for the Tigers and goalkeeper Grace Deckert stopped seven of the Marauders 30 shots throughout the contest.
Fisher wasted little time in scoring her 100th goal. The senior scored three goals in the span of the first 17 minutes and got Millersville off to an early 4-2 lead. Fisher now becomes just the 11th player in team history to have scored more than 100-goals.
The Tigers stayed in the game and outscored the Marauders 3-2 in the final 13 minutes of the first half and trailed Millersville 6-5 at the break.
Crouthamel was key to the Marauder lead at halftime as seven of her nine saves came in the opening frame
Millersville controlled the game in the second half, though, and cruised to the 5-point win. Holy Family scored back-to-back goals only once in the final half and Fisher, Landis, and Vogel each put three shots in the back of the net in the final 30-minutes alone.
Holy Family picked up four more draw controls than Millersville (17-13), but the Black and Gold forced the Tigers into three more turnovers (17-14).
Sophomore
Ella Callahan began her second season at Millersville by filling up the stat sheet. Callahan scored one goal on two shots, gathered three ground balls, caused two turnovers, and had one draw control.
The Marauders have now opened the season with a victory in two straight seasons, and in four of the last five years.
Millersville's home opener is scheduled for this Saturday, March 8 against Alderson-Broaddus, but is likely to be moved to another location due to the amount of snow still on the lacrosse field. Stay tuned to millersvilleathletics.com for any updates on the Marauders home-opener.
