Box Score Millersville, Pa. -Â On a cold and dreary Saturday afternoon, the Millersville women's lacrosse team didn't find its spark until too late in the game. The Marauders dropped their Senior Day contest to PSAC foe Edinboro, 11-8.
Millersville (4-4, 1-3 PSAC) trailed 10-4 with 10 minutes remaining on the scoreboard. The Marauders got hot and scored four straight goals to pull within two scores with 3:39 to play. The Black and Gold won the following draw control and were in position to cut the lead to one, but Edinboro's (5-2, 2-2 PSAC) Rachel Olson forced
Caitlin Shannon into a turnover and the Fighting Scots took the ball down the field, scored, and thwarted the late rally by the home team.
The Marauders honored its six seniors before the match and were led in the offensive zone by senior
Brooke Fisher. The attacker netted a hat trick for the seventh time this season, and became only the third player in the PSAC to score 30 goals thus far. The Boyertown native is now second in the conference with 33 goals this year. Fellow seniors
Caitlin Shannon (2) and
Becky Donkin also scored in the match. Goalie
Kaitlin Crouthamel made nine saves and allowed 11 goals in the loss.
The Fighting Scots dealt the Black and Gold their second straight home loss after Millersville had one seven in a row at Chryst Field at Biemesderfer Stadium. Edinboro had five different players score two or more goals and keeper Autumn Held stopped eight Millersville shots in the victory.
The Marauders got off to a slow start for the second straight day. On Friday, Millersville found itself in a 5-0 hole to begin the match against No. 8 IUP, and today the Black and Gold went down 3-0 and then 6-2 to start the game against the Fighting Scots. Fisher stopped the bleeding with two straight goals seven minutes into the action, scoring her 30th goal this year.
After Fisher's pair of goals Edinboro ended the half on a 5-1 run to go into the break with a 8-3 advantage. The second half began with the visitors scoring two of the first three goals, and taking a 10-4 lead prior to the four straight scores by Millersville.
The Marauders were plagued by turnovers for the second consecutive day as well. The weather certainly did not help Millersville's case, as the team committed more than 20 turnovers for just the fourth time this year. All four of the Marauders losses have come when they have turned the ball over 20 or more times.
Millersville did force Edinboro into 10 turnovers, the third most caused turnovers for the Black and Gold in 2014.
The Marauders return to PSAC action in their next game at West Chester. Millersville travels to the Golden Rams home turf for a 4 p.m. start this Tuesday, April 1.
