
Moffitt Denied National Bid by Narrowest Margin

Johnstown, Pa. - Freshman Aram Moffitt battled his way into the third-place match of 197-pound weight class on Sunday at the Super Region 1 Championships. But in his advance-or-go-home bout, he was edged by Shippensburg's Jalal Paige 2-1 in the first tiebreaker. As a team, Millersville finished ninth out of 12 teams.
Moffitt entered Sunday's competition in the championship semifinals where he was pinned by second-seeded Zac Bennett of Pitt-Johnstown. Moffitt advanced to the third-place match via a close, 3-2 decision over Mercyhurst's Brian Beattie. Against the unseeded Paige, the match was tied at the end of three periods and remained locked after the first one-minute overtime session. In the tiebreaker, Paige was able to score his one point escape while Moffitt could not.
Moffitt finished his true freshman season with an impressive 19 victories.
Four other Marauders entered the final day of competition with an opportunity to qualify for nationals through the consolation bracket. 125-pound Austin Camacci was eliminated in the consolation quarterfinal when he suffered an injury and could not continue. Thomas Nulty was also bounced in the quarters when he was pinned by Gannon's Adam Weinell at the 1:58 mark of the first period.
David Charles was also knocked out of the 141-pound bracket in the same round, falling to Seton Hill's A.J. Fisher by 6-3 decision. Zac Wawrzyniak-Bush also went down in his first match Sunday, falling to Gannon's Robert Blotzer, 6-2.
Millersville finished with 19 team points. The nation's No.1-ranked team, Notre Dame College, won the team title with 115.5 points.
