Millersville, Pa. - Despite winning four of the first five matches, the Millersville wrestling team was edged 19-18 by visiting East Stroudsburg Thursday evening in Pucillo Gymnasium.
The Marauders (3-7, 2-5 PSAC) scored four decisions and picked up six points with a forfeit at 157 pounds, but East Stroudsburg (5-8, 2-4 PSAC) picked up crucial bonus points with a major decision at 125 pounds, and technical fall at 174 and a major decision at 184. The Marauders have now lost three duals by two points or less.
Thomas Nulty put Millersville on the board at 133 pounds with a sudden victory win over Joey Kratochvil. Nulty and Kratochvil were knotted at 5-5 in the third period. Nulty started the period on top and guaranteed himself a point of riding time. He remained in control for the entire period but was whistled for stalling a second time with under 30 seconds left, awarding a sixth point to Kratochvil. The two went into the one minute sudden victory period and remained deadlocked until Nulty scored a takedown as time expired.
David Charles picked up his 14th victory over the season with a business-like 8-2 decision over Marius Kola at 141 pounds. Charles remained in control the entire match and built an 8-1 lead in the third period. He cut Kola loose late in an effort to score another takedown and major decision but had to settle for the 8-2 victory.
Anthony White, picked up his second win in three matches at 149, topping Joseph Hoy 10-5 after building an early lead. After Zac Wawrzyniak-Bush picked up a forfeit at 157, Zach Pincus put a scare into the nation's No. 2-ranked wrestler, Braden Turner. Pincus kept Turner's offense to a minimum and closed regulation in a 2-2 tie. But only 19 seconds into the sudden victory period. Pincus' shot was blocked, and with Turner above Pincus, he was able to grab Pincus' leg and get behind him for two points.
Warrior wrestlers won the next three matches to take a 19-15 advantage into the heavyweight bout. Both Aram Moffitt and Frank Marinucci weighed in at 197 but wrestled up a weight class. Millersville needed a fall or technical fall for the dual win. Moffitt, however, could manage only an 8-5 decision and Marinucci nver put himself in position for a possible pin. Moffitt boosted his season record to 16-12 with the victory.
The Marauders celebrate Pincus and Wawrzyniak-Bush on Saturday as part of Senior Day. Millersville and Lycoming wrestle starting at 12 p.m.
