Carly Gallagher Reaches 1,000 Career Points as Millersville Sails Past Slippery Rock

Slippery Rock, Pa. - Carly Gallagher led the Millersville women's basketball team past Slippery Rock 73-61 on the road Tuesday night and turned in a game-high 18 points to eclipse 1,000 for her career. The fifth-year senior became the 20th member of the program's elite club and first since Aurielle Mosley reached the mark on Nov. 17, 2012 against Wilmington.

The Marauders (6-3, 4-1 PSAC) won their third straight game for the first time this season and defeated The Rock for a seventh-straight time in the all-time series while Slippery Rock's (5-3, 1-3 PSAC) four-game win streak was snapped.

Millersville was ahead of the home team 58-52 with 6:24 to play in the game, Gallagher was sitting on 999 points for her career and 14 in the game before she splashed a jumper to etch her name in program lore. This season, the 5-9 guard has scored at least 10 points in all nine games and 11-straight dating back to the end of the 2013-14 campaign (most in over a decade) while leading the team in scoring for seven of the nine contests in 2014-15. 15 of the 20 players to reach the mark have been coached by Mary Fleig who's first season came in 1990-91 and Gallagher's career average of 18 points per game currently ranks eighth in Millersville history.

In the first half, the two teams exchanged the lead six times and tied on two more occasions before the visitors went up by as many as 11, 32-21, with 3:57 to go until the intermission. The Marauders used a 12-4 run over the course of four minutes and 35 seconds to gain that advantage and during that span, five different players scored for Millersville. The Rock then scored five straight to pull within six, 32-26, but that was slimmest first half margin and the away team headed into halftime up eight, 38-30.

Out of the break, the hosts used an 11-5 run of their own to cut the deficit to two, 39-37. However, the Marauders were able to hold off the charge and pushed their lead back to its biggest of the entire game at 13, 71-58, with just 20 seconds to go in the game before the 12-point difference at the final buzzer.

Shelby Reimer also scored 18 points on 4-of-9 shooting including 3-for-6 from 3-point land and a career-high seven makes (7-of-8) at the free throw line. Reimer also tallied four rebounds, one assist and one steal. Yasmin Cooper earned the 15th double double of her career and second in as many weeks with 10 points and 14 rebounds.

Wednesday, Millersville travels to Edinboro take on the Fighting Scots with tip set for 5:30 p.m.
