West Chester, Pa. - There's just something about Hollinger Fieldhouse and Millersville men's basketball that doesn't jive. West Chester dealt Millersville 78-49 loss Wednesday--the Marauders 18th in the last 21 trips to the Golden Rams' home.
Millersville (1-2, 0-1 PSAC East) has won just two regular season games at West Chester since 1995 despite winning 12 at home and eight of the last nine at home against the PSAC East rivals in that stretch.
Aside from
Kelvin Parker's 17 points and
Eddie Callender's 12, Millersville struggled to find offense, scoring its fewest points since scoring 48 at West Chester in 2011. The Marauders shot just 18-for-55 (32.7 percent). Millersville's 21 turnovers led to 22 West Chester points. The Golden Rams also hammered the boards, holding a significant 46-26 advantage and totaling 27 second chance points.
The Golden Rams put the game out of reach in a hurry, racing to a 10-0 lead five minutes in while Millersville turned the ball over on its first three possessions and five of its first six trips to the offensive end. The advantage stretched to 15-2 before Callender's bucket with 10:30 left in the first.
Millersville pulled with 34-24 on a
Sam Light lay-up for the first points of the second period but West Chester outscored Millersville 44-25 the rest of the way.
Millersville's brutally difficult season-opening, four-game road trip continues Saturday against East Stroudsburg. The Marauders first four games include two nationally-ranked opponents, and all four teams were picked No. 1 and No. 2 in league preseason polls.
