East Stroudsburg, Pa. - For the second consecutive game, a slow start spelled doom for the Millersville men's basketball game. The Marauders fell behind 9-0 after the opening tip, and the high-octane, fourth-ranked Warriors pulled away for a 78-66 triumph in Kohler Field House Saturday.
Millersville (1-3, 0-2 PSAC East), playing its fourth consecutive game on the road, suffered its ninth consecutive loss in Kohler and the seventh in a row by at least 12 points. Millersville shot a season-high 47.2 percent from the field and received 18 points and seven rebounds from
Eddie Callender, but its efforts were undone by 19 turnovers which led to 22 ESU points.
Two days before, the Marauders fell behind 10-0 at West Chester, and it was a similar scene Saturday as Millersville committed three turnovers in its first four possessions while East Stroudsburg (3-1, 2-0 PSAC East) converted buckets on three of its first four.
Millersville recovered with five quick points, but ESU retaliated with a 23-8 run over the next 12 minutes that featured eight Millersville turnovers and 3-of-14 Millersville shooting. That ESU run put the Marauders down 32-13 . The Warriors took a 15-point lead into the break and pushed the lead to as many as 23 early in the second half.
Along with Callender's 18,
Kelvin Parker scored 14 on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and 3-of-5 shooting from three, giving him double-figure scoring in 16 consecutive games.
Shawn Williams hit 4-of-4 shots and 4-of-6 free throws for 12 points.
Millersville makes its 2014 home debut on Tuesday against Chestnut Hill. Game time is 7 p.m.
